From the LVRJ:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took a break from stumping for
renewable energy at Tuesday's National Clean Energy Summit to criticize
NV Energy for keeping its Reid Gardner coal plant open 50 miles outside
of Las Vegas.
The utility company has drawn ire from the Moapa Band of Paiute
Indians, whose reservation is near the plant, as well as
environmentalists with the Sierra Club and the Nevada Conservation
League.
Tribal Chairman William Anderson said pollution from Reid Gardner is
causing respiratory problems and other ailments for the 320 Paiutes who
still reside on their ancestral lands. The plant carries the name of a
former energy company employee unrelated to the senator.
Reid, who in his opening remarks at the summit called Reid Gardner a
"dirty relic," said the only solution is to "close the plant - not
halfway. We want all the boilers shut off."

By closing down the plant, about 150 people will be thrown out of work in addition to other jobs related to the power plant. This may include miners and railroad people who transport the coal.
Reid is trying to piss everyone off in Nevada right now and Reid is a one man wrecking machine. He has put out 10,000's of people out of work just by himself. I guess another 150 or so people is nothing to Reid.
And another reason why Reid wants to close down the electric plant is to help out his son, Rory. Rory is an attorney for a Chinese group who wants to build a alternative energy plant in Boulder City and Crybaby Reid is trying to get Nevada Energy to buy their more expensive electricity.
As far as the Native Americans, if you ever drive by the area of the plant and reservation, the plant is out in the middle of nothing and the people living on the reservation are very spread out and live quite a long way away from the power plant. They are just doing Crybaby Reid's bidding.
Fortunately, people are starting to stand up to this senile bully and Nevada Energy is leading the way.
