Beware Of Buying Pawned Electronics

From the Houston Chronicle: Houston police are searching for a man who pawned a cell phone last year containing hundreds of sexually explicit photos of children as young as 3, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
Deny Palencia, 32, no address available, faces three felony counts of possession of child pornography, court records show. A judge set his bond at $20,000.
An employee of Cash America Pawn at 3818 Broadway called police last May when she found the images on a Samsung Galaxy S cell phone she was cleaning for re-sale, according to an arrest warrant filed last week in the case.
Investigators implicated Palencia through pawn shop receipts, cell phone records and surveillance footage taken of him at the business when he pawned the device.  http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Child-porn-on-pawned-phone-leads-to-suspect-3784333.php
It is lucky that this pawn shop was clearing the cell phone.  However, this is not true for all pawn stores.
I wanted to buy my daughter a MP3 player and the pawn shop we went to said they don't clear off the material on the player.  They said they also don't do that for other electronics at their store.
So, be careful if you buy electronics at a pawn store.  And if you pawn a cell phone with child porn on it, you deserve to be put away for a long, long time.
