From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Evander Holyfield thought this day might come. He had gotten foreclosure
notices before and the property, his 54,000-square-foot mansion, had been
auctioned to JP Morgan Chase in March.
But somehow, he figured he’d somehow pull it off and be able to stay there,
just like he overcame doubters four times to regain his title as Heavyweight
Champion of the World. The 109-room edifice was the embodiment of a fantasy
come true for a once-poor Atlanta youth who earned $250 million in a storied
career.
At 9 a.m. Tuesday reality, in the form of a Fayette County deputy, knocked on
the door. “Mr. Holyfield, you have 15 minutes to leave the property.”
Soon, he was driving toward the gate of the 235-acre compound for the last
time. Evander Holyfield had been evicted.http://www.ajc.com/news/subscribers/holyfield-loses-fayette-mansion-1477839.html
The guy has made $225,000,000 during his career and more after he retired and he gets tossed out on his butt.
I don't know, but the fact he has 11 kids by different women, may have something to do with his plight.
I remember seeing his house on TV a few years ago when he donated some boxing gloves to a charity and it is a huge house on a lot of land. Maybe the house was worth more than he could afford or he just blew his money on other things. Either way, it's another pro athlete who is in poverty.
