Once again, the NASCAR Daytona summer race did not disappoint as Tony Stewart came from 42nd to win the race. There were two big wrecks, including on the final turn. Matt Kenseth had the dominate car but came in third, behind Jeff Burton.
TNT still sucks as many times, it looked like the drivers they were interviewing were speaking Japanese with an English voice over. TNT also, on many occasions, totally screwed up the statistics and placement on the track. One time, TNT had Matt Kenesth 1st and 32nd at the same time. And as usual, the commentators never listened to each other, missed obvious things and for those who tuned in late, never explained what happened to A.J. Allmendinger.
And speaking of a big dope, Allmendinger was suspended for a failed drug test.
From ESPN: AJ Allmendinger
was withheld from Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 and has been
"temporarily suspended" for failing a drug test, NASCAR announced just
90 minutes before the start of the Sprint Cup race.
Allmendinger was replaced by Sam Hornish Jr. in the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge.
The team said it "fully supports" NASCAR's substance-abuse policy and
promised to "work with NASCAR through this process" in a brief
statement issued on its website.
Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR senior
vice president for racing operations, read a statement and then declined
to take any questions from the media.
Allmendinger "has been
temporarily suspended from NASCAR competition based upon notification of
a positive 'A' test NASCAR received from the medical review officer,"
O'Donnell read, citing rulebook clauses pertaining to "the NASCAR
substance abuse policy.
"Pursuant to the rule book, Allmendinger has the opportunity to request within the next 72 hours that his 'B' sample be tested." http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/8139102/aj-allmendinger-suspended-failing-drug-test
They have not said what the drug was in the failed test. Whatever happens, he needs to get ahold of Ryan Braun's attorney from baseball and get him on the case. Braun failed a drug test this year but his attorney's got it thrown out.
So, it was another exciting and normal weekend in NASCAR in Daytona.
