Almost as soon as the chimp's body was cold, a nanny Republican, Micheal Roberson as in nanny state mode and said he would introduce a bill to ban owning of exotic pets.
From the LVRJ: Days after Buddy the chimpanzee was shot and killed following an escape in northwest Las Vegas, a state senator announced Monday he will introduce a bill in the 2013 legislative session to prohibit Nevadans from keeping chimps, large wild cats and other exotic animals as pets.
Sen. Michael Roberson said his bill was in the works before Thursday, when Buddy and his companion C.J. escaped from their cage in the backyard of 5720 Rowland Ave., near Jones Boulevard and Ann Road. But that incident provided an opportune time to introduce what he called a common-sense public safety issue, he said.
"There's no legitimate reason for someone to have a wild dangerous animal," said the Las Vegas Republican. "Do we need to wait until a child is killed or seriously injured before we do something?"
With the start of session still seven months away, the bill's specifics are still being ironed out. The Humane Society of the United States is working with Roberson on it.

I'm sorry, but who the hell is Michael Roberson to tell anyone who what pets they can own and then he thinks he can take pets away from an owner.
Further, what qualifies as an exotic animal or wild animal? How about a desert tortoise, which are popular as pets in Las Vegas. How about parrots or Myna Birds? Would this mean that wild horses cannot be owned in Nevada? Would the magicians in Las Vegas be forced to give up their animals like tigers. Tell that to Sigfried and Roy.
99% of the owners of exotic pets are responsible owners who take care of their animals and we have only had 1 problem over the course of the years and no one got hurt.
Once again, the nanny state mentality strikes Nevada. Surprisingly, it was done by a Republican..
