Stupidity Of The NCAA

Today, the NCAA made a fool of themselves by trying to look like they are being thoughtful and protecting young children but all they did was make themselves look like fools.
Up until the Penn State scandal broke, the NCAA looked away when football, basketball and other coaches and their universities hid academic cheating, arrest and convictions of athletes who have been busted in crimes ranging from gambling, drugs, assault, robbery and yes, sexual assault.  Why hasn't the NCAA acted in these cases?
So, here are the penalties the NCAA put on Penn State:
1.  Vacating their wins from 1998 until 2011: So what, the teams that lost still lost.  The only thing it may hurt is that Joe Paterno loses those wins but he is dead and doesn't care.
2.  Lost 10 scholarships now and 20 scholarships a year for a four year period.  Who does that hurt?  Current and new student athletes.  This means that there will be 20-30 fewer people attending school on a free ride and will have to find another way to fund their education.  I thought the NCAA was concerned about education.  I guess not.
3.  $60 million fine with the money going towards helping the victims and preventing child abuse.  The victims will be well compensated through the courts, so that part of the fine is bogus.  And it doesn't cost millions to prevent child abuse at the University or even in the State of Pennsylvania.    This is just a feel good fine and they fined Penn State this much because they know Penn state wasn't going to fight the penalties.  This was just a theft of money that could have gone to the students of the University.  Penn state had to accept this fine instead of receiving the death penalty.  Can you say extortion?
4. A Bowl Ban and 4 years on probation.  Fine, but considering this is probably the only violation Penn State has had over the past several decades, this is the only penalty that makes sense.
The only thing the NCAA did was to hurt the students and current and future athletes at Penn State.  They didn't hurt Joe Paterno because he is dead.  They didn't hurt Jerry Sandusky because he is already in jail.  They have not hurt the other two people who supposedly help cover up the assault.  They are facing trial in the criminal courts and they have been fired.  They haven't hurt the reputation of Penn State as it's reputation already has been hurt.
The NCAA is a joke and has been for many, many years and once again, it shows that they have no clue.  Hurting students, according to the NCAA, is the appropriate penalty.
(And I say this as a Wisconsin Badger fan)
