Aftermath Of Colorado Shooting: Stupidity

It's been about 12 hours after the theater shooting in the Aurora theater shooting and before the bodies have been removed from the theater, the stupidity of people commenting about the shooting is glowing like a nuclear melt down, from the right and the left.
First, President Obama gave a very nice and sincere speech, after which his supporters yell "4 More Years".  Classy, Obama fans.  If Obama would give speeches like this all the time, he would win the election in a landslide.  Mitt Romney also gave a nice statement.
But then comes the stupidity.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City demanded early in the morning that both presidential candidates talk about gun control.
And then you have Brian Ross of ABC News:
ABC News and correspondent Brian Ross apologized Friday after Ross suggested on air that the Colorado mass shooting suspect could be tied to the Tea Party.
As the name of the suspect, identified as 24-year-old James Holmes, first emerged Friday morning, Ross reported on ABC News that he'd found a web page for a "Jim Holmes" on a Colorado Tea Party site.
"There is a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea Party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year," Ross reported.
He added: "Now we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes, but it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colo."
On the various news sites, you have the liberals saying that the shooter is a disciple of Sarah Palin and the Tea Party.  The conservatives counter this shooter was a liberal college kid, probably tied to the Occupy movement.
The left calls for gun control even they have no idea how or where he got the guns.  This is a college kid with no job- how did he buy the guns legally?
The right say that if there was a concealed carry holder in the theater, they may have stopped the gunman in his tracks.  Never mind that the gunman had body armor and it was dark in the theater.  Further, there were cops in the vicinity and they could not stop the murders.
So, while we wait to see what the facts are in the case, there are some useful idiots out there who speak out, making a complete fool themselves.

  1. Yeah. I tried to be measured in my response. It sucks. And it's terrible that this happens every couple of years somewhere. I don't think it's unreasonable to talk about sensible gun control measures at times like this; when it is fresh in everyone's mind. But trying to pillory half the population isn't the answer, for sure.
