He Ought To Be Happy That People Even Remember Him

From Norm of the LVRJ: Former teen idol David Cassidy has worn out his welcome at the South Point hotel-casino after a meltdown Sunday during his tribute to Davy Jones .
Cassidy, 62, won't be invited back, said Roy Jernigan, who books acts for the property.
An estimated 50 to 60 people walked out of the show, with many requesting refunds, after Cassidy's shaky and at times testy outing.
The former breakout star of "The Partridge Family" had trouble remembering the words to his songs and at times scolded the audience, according to a number of show-goers who contacted the Review-Journal.
"I've never seen as horrendous a show," David McNott said. He said Cassidy sang nine to 10 songs in 90 minutes and rambled on and on about this being a "tribute" to Jones, clearly not realizing that he was repeating the same thing "over ... and over ... and over."

Las Vegas is a place where old entertainers come to finish their career, if they are lucky enough to have a long career.  I've been to a few shows in Vegas in which this is the singer's last hurrah and those entertainers always seem to appreciate their audience and some will even meet and greet audience members after the show.  They know they have been lucky to have an extended career.
But very now and then, you get a jerk like David Cassidy who couldn't care less about the audience who pays his bills.
Now, having said that, then when you go to Cassidy's web site, he apparently gave such a wonderful concert and Cassidy is a god: http://www.davidcassidy.com/blog/2012/06/concert-june-29-2012/#comment-5151
I put in a request to see how they explain Norm's column, but I have a feeling that they will boot the comment from his blog.
So, if you are a performer, you need to appreciate your audience and remember is that they are the one's paying your bills and allowing them to live the life you do.
Update: As expected the Cassidy groupies decided to boot my comment from their blog.  What a shock.  Looking at the comments, my guess, all the comments were written by just one person, probably his publicist.
I actually kind this song when it came out:

  1. I was also in audience and asked for refund. You are right about what happened and about his website's, they will not let any real sensible comments to be put there. All the comments are lovey dovey and seem to be from immature women. I tried to comment about the my dislike of the show and it had to 'wait approval' and then it disapeared. Must be nice to live in a rose-colored fantasy world.

  2. David's audience members are, at least in part, comprised of the same middle-aged women who follow him from town-to-town, even flying over from the U.K. & beyond.

  3. Yeah, I suppose so. I've seen these people who do the same thing for Toby Keith.

  4. But Dan, at least Toby Keith never told his fans to "shut the F up" as I heard Cassidy do at a show I attended in L.A. some years ago. I could care less about Cassidy but I was a daily listener of Bonaduce's L.A. radio show, and he was appearing onstage with Cassidy. It was Bonaduce I went to see with Cassidy as an 'extra'. Cassidy got so mad at the audience he told them "Shut the F up" though he said the full F word. He then proceeded to instruct us on how we should clap for him. From your blog here, it sounds like this is his standard outburst meltdown practically word for word. The guy should pack it in and check into rehab or therapy for the long haul.

  5. I looked at the David Cassidy website link you put in your blog. Sorry but there are some characters on there. There was one who posted about 10 times in a row with only one line. And I only saw, as you said, glowing and adoring comments. Cassidy needs to hear the truth about his actions and not be coddled like a baby man. If you search online you will see evidence of how this was not a once or twice occurrence when he has performed in places. From what I saw, he's had this behavior pattern numerous times in the last decade.

  6. No accounting for over the hill K unts that can't let go of their childhood. These are probably burnt out women that blow through 50 energizer batteries a month for a vibrator because they can't get laid. Unfortunately there are going to be idiots out there for the duration of mankind. These old floozies need to get a handle. Kinda reminds me of the facebook idiots that run Peter Tork's page referring to him as their "boss" when they are probably rabid fans that couldn't move on in 1970 and do it for free from home. Amazing I wish I had a stable of ignorant gunches to support me.

  7. Sorry in advance to all you David Cassidy fans who will defend him no matter what, but….I too have been a Long, long time fan….loved watching the Partridge Family and fantasisizing in the 70′s about David. Unfortunately some memories should be left at that…memories. I was so looking forward to seeing him perform with 2 of my best childhood friends last night at the Tropicana…and now I feel we were all completely ‘duped’ by his ‘called in’ performance. Obviously he feels (and unfortunatley I guess he’s right) that his die-hard fans will put up with anything…including his non-sensical ramblings, distracted demeanor, bad voice inflections (was he trying to do Jack Nicholson?!) and overall lackluster singing/performing. To top it off, he feels he’s too ‘big a star’ to even take a pix after the show when he was leaving Boogie Nights. Really David??? Bruce Springsteen can chat with his fans and take pix…but you’re too big of a STAR? Time to get a grip on reality babe!! I’m sure all your fanatics will blast me for writing this but it’s true what they say…after meeting Paul McCartney, Bruce and many other HUGE performers who were so gracious to their fans … “the smaller they are, the bigger they THINK they are!!

  8. I've recently seen David in concert at Mohegan Sun Casino in Conn. He was fantastic and showed a lot of compassion to his audience. I can't believe this to be true unless he was truly not feeling well. He was also very thankful to all the support through the years
