Hotel tycoon Steve Wynn peeled off a lot of greens to buy the life-sized sculpture of cartoon character Popeye created by pop-modern artist Jeff Koons at the Sotheby’s auction in New York on Wednesday night.
In fact, $28.2 million greens, and he did it by phone from his desk at his Strip hotel. It was part of a two-night sale of postwar and contemporary art that brought in more than $1 billion in record sales.
So Wynn payed $28,200,000 for this:
