Las Vegas Marching Band Marching In Macy's Parade

From Fox 5 Las Vegas:
Wednesday night rehearsals have been a routine for the Foothill High School marching band since August.
Wednesday night was their final one before they head out to New York City for the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The opportunity could literally be one in a million. Foothill is only one of six high school bands in the country that were selected to participate.
"I just like performing. I like performing and I like the deal we'll be performing in front of millions of people," said senior drum major Lydia Harris.
"They've performed for several thousand people at a time, but millions is much different," said Foothill director of bands Travis Pardee.
The 300 students traveling at a cost of $2,000 each are guaranteed 90 seconds of national air time during the parade.
Fifty million people will be watching on television, plus another 3.5 million will be along the three-mile parade route.
On Wednesday night, the band marched 12 times around their quarter-mile track. It was the first time they marched three miles straight before the parade.
Legs were wobbly, arms were sore, but the pain will be worth the fame.
"It's so worth it. It's such an amazing feeling. It's such an honor to march in the Macy's Parade," said senior flute player Taylor Catlett.
The band will be traveling out of Las Vegas on five separate flights on Sunday. The trips will cost an estimated $650,000 for students, faculty and chaperones.

Sadly, there are members of Henderson/Las Vegas/CCSD community are mooching off the student's fundraising and have invited themselves to the parade at little or no cost.
However, it is a great honor for Foothill H.S. to marching at Macy's and I am sure they are having a good time, except of course, they have to get up at 2:00 AM to get ready for the parade.
