Another Gay Fake Hate Crime

When I hear of potential hate crimes, I usually do not believe the story until it has been proven without a shadow of a doubt.
And the reason for my skepticism are because of incidents like this:
From the AP: A man who reported someone beat him and carved a homophobic slur into his arm staged the attacks, authorities in rural Utah said Tuesday.
Millard County Sheriff Robert Dekker said Rick Jones, 21, could face charges after officers investigating the series of reported attacks found inconsistencies in the evidence. The Delta man eventually acknowledged faking the harassment, Dekker said.
Brett Tolman, an attorney for Jones, said the reports were a cry for help initially directed toward people close to him, and Jones didn't realize how much attention they would get.
"I think it's such good evidence of the difficulties members of the gay community deal with, and some make better choices than others," Tolman said.
Jones has since begun mental health treatment, the lawyer said.
The purported attacks began with a beating at his family's pizza business in April that left Jones with head and facial bruising.
Five days later, the family's home was found spray-painted with a homophobic slur. On June 10, a rock and a molotov cocktail were thrown through the window of the home. That same day, the business was spray-painted, broken into and robbed of $1,000.

This wasn't a cry for help.  This guy was hoping that he would get sympathy for his cause and hurt people who disagree with him.
He decided he needed help only after he got caught.  If he truly needs help, he could have gotten it before he decided to fake a hate crime.
A few years ago, some gay waitress decided to lie about a couple not giving her a tip because she was gay: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2013/12/another-gay-hate-hoax.html
I spotted the hoax right away but before she was outted in her lie, many, many people bought into her lie and the couple was innocently harmed for no reason.
While the thug waitress was fired from her job, she never was really punished because the family she hurt forgave her.  They could have sued her but they didn't.
So, I rarely believe these kind of stories because of idiots like this liar and I do hope he is charged with a crime for filing a false police report.
