From
Obama's book: With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner
(plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat
(tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy).

I'm not sure why Obama would even include this in a book. Maybe he thinks it would connect with the masses?
So, I guess we now have the first dog eating president in the White House. Hardly the same as the first president born in a hospital or the first president to talk on a telephone.
I doubt he's the first. It's a common food animal in many countries, and lots of presidents have travelled abroad. A friend of mine did lots of work in Indonesia and Malaysia, and was offered dog. When he wrinkled his nose, the host said, "Oh, not pet dog, FOOD dog."
ReplyDeletePlus, you know, the president was SIX.
I was just going to say, at age six, a child eats what he is given to eat.
ReplyDeleteIt's not uncommon for different cultures to eat animals that Europeans see as pets. For example, Chinese and Korean people eat cats and dogs. If it's meat, people will kill it and eat it, regardless of public perspective.
ReplyDeleteBig deal, he ate dog. Some cultures still practice cannibalism.
Animals I've eaten that are often pets:
ReplyDelete- Rabbit
- Frog
- Duck
- Snake
- Fish
- Alligator
- Turtle
