As I expected, Michael Sam, the gay college football player, was cut by the St. Louis Rams at the end of training camp.
Sam proved he was a good football player but not good enough to be a NFL player. Yesterday, hundreds of players were cut by NFL teams, but Sam was the one to garner all the attention because he was gay.
Sam played against 2nd and 3rd string players and was a 1 dimensional player, who was small for his position.
I think Sam was drafted because he was gay and he was cut because he wasn't a NFL caliber player.
He received so much attention during training camp, especially when he got a sack, that I am sure it did cause problems that some 7th round rookie received so much attention over veterans and other higher drafted rookies.
I doubt he will be picked up by another team or be on a practice squad.
He should consider himself lucky as he was able to play with NFL players, play in exhibition games- something so many boys and some girls have dreamed about but never got the chance Sam did.
It also didn't help that he got Oprah involved and then at the end, he left training camp, went to the Missouri football game and was introduced to the crowd and blew a kiss and bowed to the crowd.
Good luck to Sam in his future endeavors and hopefully, he went college and got a degree that he can use.
