Crap: Badgers Out Coached In Rose Bowl

Well, the Rose Bowl ended and my prediction was quite off, but TCU played the better game and the Badgers were clearly out coached.

Speaking of terrible coaching: first, on the 2 point conversion, you just smashed mouth the football down TCU's throat through the run, so what do the Badgers do? Line for a pass play so TCU only had cover the pass, not the run. That may have drawn in the linebacker who blocked the pass into the middle, opening up the passing lane.

The Badgers were very successful running the ball up the middle, so why do you run so many sweeps and most were for losses or no gain.

And, oh by the way, about that 2 minute drill at the end of the first half? There wasn't any.

Brett Bielma, Badger coach, said he didn't want the ball thrown over the safety's, so the safety's line up 10 yards off the bowl and they get nickle and dimed to death with short passes and constantly getting first downs.

Bielma is an average, at best, coach who can recruit big players. He was out coached in the Badgers only other loss this year against Michigan State.

Having said that, TCU played a great game. Their quarterback was great and their defense, especially their linebackers played a great game. And their punter really helped win the game for the Horned Frogs by pinning Wisconsin deep in Badger territory.

Other thoughts: Brent Musberger needs to retire. He made so many mistakes during the game, it was painful. For instance, he said, when TCU first punted, Musberger said it was the first 3 and out of the game, even though the Badgers went 3 and out moments later. It just went on and on.

Finally, the officiating crew was horrid, for both teams. The referee missed at least two helmet to helmet hits on the Badger QB. They missed several pass interference penalties on TCU but the ref's also missed a late hit on a TCU runner when he was clearly out of bounds.

All in all, TCU played better and deserved to win, but on the bright side, the Badgers covered the spread and I won some money.

  1. I wonder why the "Grand Daddy" of football games doesn't have better production crews and announcers. Very few replays, etc. and even the announcers problems often are a gaff of the production team.

Also, shame on the local, national, any media other than your blog for not mentioning the lack of two minute drill by the Badgers. I got up to go into the kitchen with about 2 minutes on the game clock and went back to the living room about 90 seconds later to see the badgers kicking a field goal, with three time outs remaining???

One other thing that bothers the heck out of me is when teams have 4th and 1 (or whatever) on the opposing teams 38 yard line and they punt! Obviously certain situations would warrent the punt but not too many, especially when it seems 7 out of 10 punts from that distance go for a touchback............just sayin.

  2. I got to agree with you. Maybe Brett got bad information but some of the Brett's mistakes happen soon after after a play happened.
I tend to agree with the punt. You only 18 yards if there is a touchback. But if you make a 4th and 1, you gain a lot. Shows no confidence in their offense.
