U.W. defensive end, J.J. Watt of the Wisconsin Badgers has decided to enter the NFL draft. From jsonline: The 2011 Rose Bowl was J.J. Watt's last game in a Wisconsin uniform.
The fourth-year junior defensive end from Pewaukee High School announced Thursday he will skip his final season of college eligibility and enter the 2011 National Football League draft.
Watt announced his decision in an open letter to UW fans.
You can read the letter here.
“I talked with multiple people connected with NFL teams on J.J.’s behalf to make sure he had the best information to make an informed decision and one that he was comfortable with," coach Bret Bielema said in a UW release. "He is a terrific example of what we want our student-athletes to be, both on and off the field, and he will be missed. I wish him nothing but the best and I know he will be successful in his future endeavors.”
Watt blossomed into a dominant performer in just his second season on defense. He was a first-team All-Big Ten Conference pick and a second-team All-American pick according to The Associated Press. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/113026039.html
It's sad to see Watt go pro early and he is taking a chance. If there is a lockout next football season, it may hurt him with experience and possibly financially.
But I have doubt he will be a successful NFL player. It would be nice if he could drop down to the Packers, but I doubt he will stay on the board that long.
