From the Arizonian:
Police say a bank robber is dead and his partner is in custody after their attempted robbery of a north Phoenix credit union Wednesday afternoon was thwarted by a bystander.
At about 2:30 p.m., two armed men walked into a Desert Schools Federal Credit Union branch near 46th Street and Cactus Road and demanded money, said Sgt. John Howard, a Phoenix police spokesman.
Howard said the pair parked their vehicle in front of the credit union and left it running while they went inside.
A woman outside of the credit union saw the car and notified employees at an adjacent jewelry store, according to Theresa Sesler, who said she witnessed the incident.
Sesler is the owner of Fix Salon, which is next to the jewelry store.
She said a man walked out of the jewelry store, took the keys out of the ignition of the car and waited for the pair to exit the credit union.
Sesler said she heard about eight gunshots and saw one of the pair knock a woman to the ground before taking her car and peeling out of the parking lot.
Police confirmed that a man intervened during the course of the robbery and that one of the robbers was shot before police arrived.
Sesler said the injured man was left on the ground next to a trash can full of money.
He was later pronounced dead at a hospital, according to Howard. http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/phoenix/2014/10/15/phoenix-bank-robbery-two-arrested-one-shot-abrk/17327315/
Seriously, if you are going to commit a robbery, don't leave your keys in the car.
