This isn't getting much coverage in the Wisconsin press, but there are no gasoline flowing to storage tanks in Central and Northern Wisconsin because of an gas pipeline break. That means cities like Green Bay, Wausau and other cities in the area are not getting any gas via the pipeline.
From the Green bay Press Gazette: Crews may be working through the weekend to fix a ruptured pipeline that brings gasoline to Green Bay.
The
broken pipeline had truckers on Friday waiting two to three hours for
gasoline at distant supply stations to help get fuel to the Green Bay
area. Meanwhile, the operator of the pipeline, Buckeye Pipeline Co.,
sought regulatory clearance to begin repairs on the line that carries
nearly 3 million gallons a day from Chicago.
Regulators
pledged to expedite the approval process to get the pipeline back in
operation, although a federal agency spokesman said Buckeye might be
required to implement added safety measures that could prolong the
process.
Meanwhile, gas station operators in Green Bay braced for an uncertain
future. One station owner boosted pump prices 5 cents a gallon because
of the cost of trucking supplies from remote locations.
“Somebody has to pay that driver,” said Terry Cayemberg, owner of Terry’s E-Z Go, 401 Mather St.
The
pipeline, owned by West Shore Pipe Line Co. of suburban Chicago, was
shut down Tuesday after rupturing and leaking north of Milwaukee. The
10-inch pipeline normally transports gasoline, jet fuel and diesel to
Green Bay terminals where truckers fill their tanks. http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20120721/GPG0101/307210137/Gasoline-suppliers-scramble-after-pipeline-break?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE&nclick_check=1
If this ever happened to the Las Vegas pipeline, I think it comes from Phoenix, it could devastate Las Vegas for days, weeks or months.
And if terrorists ever wanted to play with our economy, all they have to do is break a pipeline or two to some big cities like Vegas and it will bring us to our knees. And it probably will be pretty easy to do and be pretty spectacular.
