Six police officers unleashed a barrage of some 60 bullets after a Texas man refused repeated orders to drop a weapon, later found to be a BB gun, police said.
Jose Walter Garza, 30, never spoke when police spent five minutes at a Laredo truck stop ordering him to drop the replica pistol, but eventually “raised the weapon in the direction of a police officer,” Investigator Joe Baeza, the Laredo, Texas, police spokesman told the Daily News.
The revelations Friday came nearly a week after officers killed Garza around 1:45 a.m. Saturday at the Gateway Truck Stop. It’s still unclear how many times Garza was shot, but five of the six officers were armed with AR-15 rifles, Baeza said.
An earlier report from Garza’s grandmother that the man “had no face” after being shot was unfounded, Baeza said. Family members originally believed a total of 80 shots had been fired.
Less than 90 seconds into the speeded-up video, two officers appear to give each other a congratulatory “fist bump.” Baeza said internal affairs is investigating that aspect of the shooting, and its aftermath, as well.
The family has been in to speak with police and a small group of protesters has appeared on city street corners with signs condemning “killer cops.”
“We’ve extended whatever courtesies we’ve been legally able to in terms of their questions,” Baeza said of the family.

So, a guy brings a fake gun, refuses to put it down and then aims it at the cops.
What are the cops supposed to do? Before they shoot him are they supposed to ask "Sir, is that a real or fake gun you have in your hands?"
And then the thug's family members and other village idiots complain about the shooting. What a bunch of pathetic morons.
